Exoplanets

Definition

Exoplanets or extrasolar planets are planets that orbits another stars outside of our solar system. The first detection of such a planet did not happen until 1988, and first confirmed detection until 1992. This discovery involved several terrestrial-mass planets orbiting pulsar PSR B1257+12. But the first exoplanet in the sense of orbiting main-sequence star was not discovered until 1995, it had a four-day orbit around 51 Pegasi.
